Progress not Perfection.. and German Chocolate Cake
Moving things forward only requires one step at a time.
One way to gain perspective when things look overwhelming involves actual quite time. You can call it meditation, call it prayer, call it what you will – with the world so very noisy and bright sometimes a bit of silence can bring extreme creativity.
Christy Farr from Seeds & Weeds challenged me recently to write down all the things that I am passionate about. A few of the first things were;
Joan. Shades of Blue. The Green of Spring. My mom’s German chocolate cake (three layers, by scratch – honesty, I’ve never had anything anywhere I liked more and I haven’t had one for nearly 25 years). Planting new things. Tools that save time. Cowboy movies. Making things better. ……
I intend to keep growing this list and will be looking thoughtfully at the meaning of what lands on the page.
Living an artful life has a lot to do with recognizing your passion and moving it forward, just a step. If we look for, or wait for, perfection before we move, nothing will ever happen. How do you find the time to be quite? What are the first few things on your passion list? How can you move one step forward today?
Me? I’m going to get that recipe from my mother.
