January 2007:

"I was so happy that Terry encouraged me to stay on at Provence as the resident artist. The frequent rotations have encouraged prolific work and the calendar is filing up! I'm very fortunate to have what now feels like my own gallery in the cafe. I sold ten works out of the location in 2006 . I'm so pleased that people are responding to my artwork and look forward to seeing the response to the next season of expression,"

I’LL TAKE TWO CROISSANTS, A COOKIE AND OH YES…THAT PAINTING BY THE WINDOW!

When Provence Breads and Cafe opened its newest location in the Music Row Plaza to hungry Nashvillians in late November, 2005 owner Terry Carr-Hall decided to offer his customers more than just a treat for their taste buds but to delight their eyes as well. Now adorning the walls of this new café are original art works by renowned local artist Nancy VanReece, represented by Contemporary Expression, a division of Carpe Diem Copyright Management.

Inspired by the café’s namesake, several of VanReece’s pieces help to accentuate the café’s unique features while a few highlight the celebrated region of France.

“Six of the works were designed specifically with this location in mind,” says VanReece. “Among the works are four (4) five foot panels, one of which is inspired by the lavender fields of France titled ‘Provence’ and another tilted ‘Round About’. My favorite new work is a diptych of 20 inch cubes called ‘Prayer Flag Duet.’ ”

According to VanReece, the current twelve paintings, unless sold, will be displayed through mid-May of 2006 at which time she will rotate in new works.

“We are proud to have Nancy’s incredible work on our walls. We hear people talking about the fabulous art every day. It truly adds a mark of distinction to have it here,” says Carr-Hall.

Having worked in both contemporary and abstract expressions since the mid 1990’s, most of VanReece’s earlier works focused on basic elements such as water and wind, fire and steel, nature and its seasons and the seven deadly sins. She has works now showing in four states and in three cities in Canada.

Provence Cafe in Round About Plaza is open Monday through Friday 7am-5pm. Free parking is available to patrons in the garage.
