by NVanReece on February 21, 2012

This week’s episode of #HerStory, a podcast from ChickHistory.com, is a talk about Katharine Lee Bates.

52 women. One year of history. #HerStory is a podcast for 2012 in which each week, a contemporary woman shares the story of a historical woman who inspires her. Hear elected officials, academics, mothers, filmmakers, authors, activists, CEO’s, and more provide a snapshot of these women’s lives, from the headliners to the lesser-known gems. A project by Chick History.

I was happy to be asked to participate in this project.   I encourage you to subscribe to the Podcast and listen all year long.

Here is a portion of  a letter that Katharine Lee Bates wrote to her partner Katharine Coman in 1891 when Bates traveled alone to Oxford to study:

‘”I wonder if an English spring can be as beautiful as Princeton was a year ago. Do you remember the sunset sky that Sunday evening, when we strayed home from the Rock and there were two hands in one pocket?  We will go to Princeton again sometime…. I am coming back to you my Dearest…”

What women in history have inspired you and why?
